‘Aaed Abdullah Alqarni has written an excellent book in Arabic about the signs of a hypocrite. When the Prophet tas and his companions fie migrated to Madinah, they faced a new kind of problem that they had not encountered in Makkah despite the intense persecution of the Quraysh. Here, they came across men who professed belief in Islam orally but were not Muslims at heart. This was more dangerous to Islam and Muslims and very often much confusion arose. So, the Prophet 45″ disclosed to his companions how they could detect a hypocrite. These people were always on the lookout to cause a rift among Muslims – the emigrants and the ansars who had welcomed their brothers, and the Aws and khazraj tribes of the ansars. This book narrates the Prophet’s sayings and cites the verses of the Quran about the signs of the hypocrites and explains them in a succint manner. The companions 4, were careful thereafter and were never again deceived by the hypocrites pwhose leader was Abdullah Ibn Ubayy Salul. This book is useful to us in that we should shun those qualities that are identical to the hypocrites. This is more important in our times when hypocrisy has made deep in-roads in the Muslim society.
