ISRA COMPENDIUM FOR ISLAMIC FINANCIAL TERMS

In an attempt to respond to the challenges facing Islamic lexical scholarship in the modern era, ISRA strongly believe. that it is our responsibility to produce quality re- search and scholarly work that will be accessible to the widest possible readership, especially those working in the Islamic finance industry. This humble effort has, therefore, given birth to the ‘production of this Arabic-English Compendium on Islamic finance terminologies. It is designed to fa- militarize the experts and students in Islamic finance with linguistic and technical meanings of some of the Islamic Financial Terms. We have tried-as much as possible-to use concise language that makes the meanings clear without necessarily ‘excluding the in- formation that are of relevant importance. We have also attempted to respond to the second contemporary challenge confronting the Islamic Scholarly research by com- posing this compendium in both Arabic and English because they are the two major contemporary languages in the field of Islamic finance; Arabic is the original language of this knowledge and English is the international language of modern commerce, especially among the non-Arabic speaking nations.
