AUTHOR Amir Shakib Arslan (1869-1946), a noble Druz family in Lebanon, was known among Arab intellectuals as Amir al-Bayän (Prince of Eloquence). He was veteran of Arab and Islamic conventions and a foremost exponent of pan-Islamism.
