PURSUIT OF HUMAN DIGNITY AND JUSTICE
About the Book
By dismissing human rights values as inappropriate to the contemporary Muslim community this work on alternative values to human rights should not be interpreted as advacating anarchy and turmoil. To the contrary, a thesis to the effect that human rights values have failed to bring about permanent solutions to peace and tranquility especially in the Muslim world has been unfolded. Since the 1940’s when the human rights values were declared as universal, meaning that they were to be enjoyed by all human beings regardless of religious, color, racial, gender differences, the world has become less peaceful and more confrontational.
Treacherous individuals have gained the upper hand in controlling world affairs and many times they are seen to be pursuing the so called human rights values. The clear message one reads is that the values in question have not only failed to liberate man from being
the enemy of his fellow man, but they simply don’t have the potential to do so even at the theoretical level. Many communities have tired to graft human rights to their own customs but the end result is that they have never been fully integrated in all cultures. We have argued the case of Muslim traditional values namely the pursuit of human dignity and justice, in an effort to call upon Muslims to rethink their own deep rooted norms which, once given space, can bring about happiness and the good life for both themselves as well as those from whom they differ. It is hoped that this message will serve the purpose of opening up our conscience to
pursue the straight path.
