THE AUTHOR
Abdullah Alwi Haji Hassan (b. 1949), graduated with a B.A.(al-‘dliyah) in Islamic Law from University of Al-Azhar, Egypt in 1971, M. Phil. (Law) from the University of Kent, United Kingdom (1979) and Ph.D (Islamic Law) from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (1986). Until his retirement in 2006, he was holding various academic and administrative posts at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. His other works include Pencapaian Umat Islam Dari Segi Ulum Islamiyah (The Achievement of Muslims in the Field of Islamic Studies), Cendikia
(a monograph of the Academy of Malay Studies) and The Administration of Islamic Law in Kelantan. He is currently Professor of Islamic Law at the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC), Kuala Lumpur.
