UNDERSTANDING SOCIOLOGICAL ISSUES: CONCEPTUALIZING THE DIVERSITIES is an attempt to incorporate a number of existing societal issues which seem to be sociologically significant and empirically relevant. The topics chosen for this book thus contain some prolific discussion in the contemporary sociological discourse. A chapter on the reemergence of plantation-agriculture gives clear indication that although plantation agriculture has been reemerging to make some sort of transformation in the agrarian sector. in reality, it dots not help the poor as expected. The book also contains papers on social network, urban issues, social media and statutory rape as well as the work performances and sociocultural adaptability of the Bangladeshi migrant workers. A.H.M. ZEHADUL KARIM has been teaching in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the International Islamic University Malaysia since 2010. Prior to that, he was Professor of Anthropology at Rajshahi University since 1992 and served there for more than thirty years. Dr. Zchadul Karim received his MA and PhD degrees in Anthropology from Syracuse University, USA, and his MA in Sociology from Dhaka University. Bangladesh. Dr. Karim was the founder chairman of the Department of Anthropology and Dean of Social Science at Rajshahi University, a Member of Bangladesh University Grants Commission and also was the Vice Chancellor of a university in Bangladesh for one year. lie also served as a Faculty Member at the University Science Malaysia for three years (1995 to 1998). Dr. Karim has an extensive academic background on diversified research issues relating to rural and urban focus. He has so far published four books and reports and has written about 120 articles in the form of ‘published papers. ‘contribution to international conferences’ and ‘project reports as mimeograph’.
