An Introduction to Islamic Economics & Finance is a collection of essays on Finance and its related disciplines from an Islamic perspective. This book is the first of its kind, in the sense that it provides the reader with a comprehensive exposition and critical evaluation of issues surrounding the western mode of financing and its Islamic alternative. It also elaborates on the various approaches towards the Islamization of the financial system, which currently occupies the minds of the policy-makers and the masses in Malaysia. Concomitantly, steps have been taken in this direction. Thus, this collection of essays will no doubt play the role of a handbook for easy reference to laymen and those who are interested in the subject. All the terms used are explained vividly in order to enhance the understanding of the reader while going through the book. Nevertheless, it is the objective of the editors that this book will assist the student of Islamic Finance and academic staff who wish to disseminate an Islamic alternative to the conventional approach and to expedite their efforts in collecting materials that will supplement whatever textbooks that they are adopting. Finally, the structure of this book follows the normal conventional approach with the deliberate aim of making it possible for the interested individuals to make a parallel comparison.
