DIVERSITY OF HIGHER EDUCATION MODEL

HE is an essential mechanism of socio-economic development and has been instrumental in individual and societal changes as well as their well-being. Around the globe, HLIs produce workforce, conduct breakthrough research, produce innovation, and contribute to community development. Over time, various landscape or structure of HE has emerged in tandem with various changes in social, technological and human lifestyles, making it a diverse service sector. The different needs of a particular society provide the ground for the formulation of various types of HLIs, approaches of learning, and the focus niche of an HLI. Nevertheless, despite their differences, HLIs are expected to play vital role in the development of a country, its citizen, and workforce.
In optimizing the roles of HLIs, many strategies have been identified to strengthen the HLIs so that they are relevant to different needs of time and place. The diverse model of HE is in place in order to make HLIs continue serving as transmitters of culture, promoter of learning and lever of thought which in turn produce knowledge, promote the scholarship of academics, and well-being of humanity. Ultimately HE would continue to be the catalyst for the socio-economic development of a society. This book provides the background of the diverse models of HE as reported by authors from different HE settings. The chapters compiled in this book help readers to understand the need for, or the reasons of the presence of different missions and orientations, unique intensive focus of an HL1, varied learning and teaching modes, or diverse governance HE structure.
