LANDSCAPE IN ISLAMIC BUILT ENVIRONMENT This book is an attempt to compile information theories and clear illustration on trees which is almost 100 species of trees with different families. It highlights the trees anatomy, texture, characteristics, color and structure as well as explains of trees behavior. The preparation of the book grew out of the need to elaborate to the students about plant materials and selection. Most of these students will use it as a text book especially in landscape architecture field. Other background who will benefits from this book include an architect, planner, owner of nursery, researcher and public people in understanding deeply about trees characteristics and behavior. There is no doubt that even people with some basic of knowledge about trees will be able to make use this book as guide in landscape design project and identification of trees on nursery before transfer to site project.

THE AUTHORS:

Rashidi Othman is currently an associate professor and certified horticulturist at the Department of Landscape Architecture in the International Islamic University Malaysia as well as deputy director for INHART. His research interests include horticulture, landscape ecology, environmental sciences, and ethno-botany but in Halal industry science he focuses more on natural resources from the Islamic perspectives. Rashidi’s work on the Landscape Ecology of Heath Forest, Aquatic and Mangrove Ecosystems represents a major step forward in the manipulation of aesthetic and functional values of natural resources to be integrated and incorporated into the Islamic built environment particularly landscape ecology approach. This work and the approaches that Rashidi has developed are currently used to address the issues of environmental protection as well as natural resources management. This work also provides new dimension or insights into conservation and preservation of endangered ecosystem through landscape ecological approaches. Qurratu Aini Mat Ali was born in Pahang, Malaysia on the 11th November 1988. She is currently a postgraduate at Department of Landscape Architecture, Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She graduated in 2013 with Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and currently pursues Master of Sciences (Built Environment) in the same institution. Her research interests include the landscape ecology, landscape design, horticulture, solid waste and landfill management as well as phytotechnology. Along the duration of her studies, she has participated and gained several awards which are Silver medal in International Research Invention and Innovation Exhibition (IRIIE) 2014, Gold medal in Conference, Competition and Exhibition (CCE) 2014 and Silver medal in Bio-Malaysia 2014. She also managed to publish a paper in International Journal of Environmental Science and Development and also a book entitled Ecological Indicator in Islamic Built Environment. Farah Ayuni Mohd Hatta is the author of the book entitled Ecological Indicator in Islamic Built Environment. She is currently a Ph.D student at the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Her research field is in lanscape ecology and environmental management which focuses on aquaculture wastewater treatment. She attended the IIUM and graduated with Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (B.LA) and awarded as a Best Student (Academic) 2012. In 2015, she graduated from the IIUM with Master of Science in Built Environment (MSc.BE). Publishing credits include several journals in Jurnal Teknologi and Research Journal of Applied Sciences. She participated in green-technology product innovation competition and has won a silver medal in Conference, Competition and Exhibition 2014 (CCE 2014) while in Malaysia Technology Expo, The Invention and Innovation Awards (MTEX 2015) she won a bronze medal. Razanah Ramya @ Abd Rahim is currently a PhD candidate at the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She is a young researcher who really dedicated her life and time in landscape ecology research especially mangrove ecosystem wilth full enthusiast. Her research field are comprises of environmental science which focusing merely on remediation of heavy metals contamination as well as ecological indicator agent for unhealthy environment. Currently, she is working on the research of extracting natural herbicides for weed management. In 2015 she finished her Master of Science in Built Environment while in 2011 graduated with Bachelor of Landscape Architecture. Both degrees were obtained from International Islamic University Malaysia. In research publications she has contributed in several indexed journals such as Jurnal Teknologi, book chapter entitled Aesthetic in Built Environmen: Reconciling Culture Sustainability and Ecology in 2015 and finally author for a book of Ecological Indicator in Islamic Built Environment also in 2015.
