ISLAMIC REVEALED KNOWLEDGE This book is a collection of 13 articles focusing on Caqidah, Islamic Thought, ‘ilm al-kaläm, study of Religions, and epistemological foundations of the worldview. It highlights psychotherapeutic approaches rooted in religion, characterized by comprehensiveness and consistency to help people cope with the vicious challenges of modern life, analyses the position occupied by the Divine Mercy of God in His relation with His servants, discusses taw&id to eliminate misconceptions regarding the discourses of the reformists. It also explores how Muhammad Farid Wajdi views the scientific and rational methodological approaches to theological matters, draws attention to a major cultural transformation of the Malays as a result of the introduction of Islam to the Malay Archipelago, and underscores the role of sacred texts in understanding religions by offering a general survey of the two approaches in the study of religions. It analyzes Ibn Qutaybah’s method of relating the abädith as a general ethical basis for any operational guidelines to the contemporary context, explores the views of Ibn Khaldün on the history of theology, and studies the muior schools in Islamic theology concerning the divine transcendence and their views against anthropormorphism. Finally, it examines the traditions and opinions of some of the mu&addithün, which reveal that union with the Prophet can only take place in a ‘true dream, and discusses the issue of divorce and its legislation in Islamic law, its negative outcomes on the couples, family and children.

Thameem Ushama is professor at the Department of Usül al-Din and Comparative Religion, Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He received PhD degree from Aligarh Muslim University, India. He is the author of five books: (l) Hasan al-Bannä: Vision and Mission. (2) Methodologies of the Qur’änic Exegesis. (3) of the Qur’än: An Analytical Study. (4) Issues in the Study of the Qur’än and (5) Sayyid Qu!b between Reform and Revolution. His book, Methodologies of the Qur’änic Exegesis has been translated into Malay and published. He has attended national and international conferences and seminars, papers, and published articles in the refereed academic journals.
